Relationships for people who have a disability, are often restricted to family members. They have usually had restricted opportunities to explore and develop relationships and friendships outside of their family. Many of their attempts at friendships may have failed for various reasons and in turn might result in a reluctance to try again.
The CLP believes people who have an intellectual disability may often need assistance with the complexities of developing and nurturing a relationship, as equally, other people in the community might need assistance to respect and value the contributions made by a person who has a disability, in relationship to them.
